Election Night Déjà Vu
Is that you, 2016?
The echoes of 2016 were strong last night and I found myself counting off the parallels.
Both elections, I watched highly-qualified (yet comparatively unpopular) political veterans face off against the same unhinged Neanderthal, who is quite possibly the most dangerously unqualified candidate in American history.
Both elections, I didn't personally care for the Democrat at all, but I also knew that Donald Trump didn't even deserve to be on the same stage as either woman.
Both elections, I watched her path to 270 quickly narrow and knew it was over by 10:00.
And in 2024, that was before Kamala Harris's campaign co-chair took the stage at her Howard watch party to deliver the most striking analog to 8 years ago.
When Cedric Richmond announced that Harris would not address the crowd, I was immediately transported back to November 8, 2016, when Clinton campaign manager John Podesta informed the crowd that they would not hear from Hillary that night.
Anybody who remembers that and can read between the lines understands what Richmond didn't say.
Kamala Harris spoke on the results this afternoon, but last night's announcement was effectively her back-door concession.
